Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, is a singer-songwriter and Canadian American. Her catalog includes more than 20 albums. DiFranco's songs are classified as folk and alternative rock. They also have influences from hip hop as well as jazz and punk. Ani DiFranco is widely recognized as the feminist's icon, and Grammy-winning artist is considered to be the first founder in DIY music. She was one of the first artists to launch their own labels in the year 90. DiFranco was the child of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They met at their school, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is Italian descent, and her mother comes from Montreal. Her song 32 Flavors, was composed by her and is performed by Ani. This song was released on her 1995 sixth album Not a Pretty Girl. A version of the song can be heard on the 1999 Canadian romantic movie Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 when it was announced that she was planning to hold the three-day workshop on a Louisiana plantation for slaves. The course was later cancelled but she didn't show any regret. DiFranco issued a new apology two days following the first. Although she is known as the Little Folksinger, her music has embraced many styles and collaborations that range between Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. Her home is New Orleans. Ani DiFranco is married to Kristen Ford. At the age of 14 she was making her own songs. The songs she performed in bar and cafes in her teens. DiFranco graduated from The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school at 16 and started attending the classes of Buffalo State College. The new baritone she got was a custom Alvarez, made by Chrys Johnston who at that time worked as the Alvarez Artist Representative. This guitar is made from solid wood and has an ebony top and cedar sides. It also has the System 600 Preamp. The home she lives in is New Orleans. There she lives with her husband, kids and her long-legged pet Lefty. After three decades of her career DiFranco admits she has mixed feelings about looking in the rearview. Singer-songwriter and punk/folk musician Ani DiFranco attained musical heroine recognition at age 25 with both the public as well as critics, with her seventh album Not A Pretty Girl in 1995. She then had even more acclaim and success through Dilate in 1996. The single was released in 1972 of the American pop band Looking Glass.
