The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. A few months later she devised a process that didn't create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. The subject instead transforms into a re-creation of itself, where the surface transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruits. Alexa Meade's style of painting, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only work of Alexa's art that survives is the photograph. As the photographic and painting methods are closely coordinated it creates an illusion of trompe l'oeil, that creates the illusion of three dimensions can only be seen at specific places, for example the area around the eyes or hair. Sometimes, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to engage with this self-created world. The line that separates painting and photography is removed.
